We had just about everything we needed back at the house, and any time not spent there, I was at Bill's place near the water. But I walked the streets anyway, probably for the same reason I still liked to go out to the deserted amusement park to hang out and write. There was something vaguely dangerous and creepy about the empty streets. The shadows were a little darker. Every noise was strangely amplified. The big empty space was just begging to be filled up with gruesome horror stories. And I loved that shit.
I had my computer bag slung over one shoulder, my car parked a few blocks over. I walked down the street, checking doors, looking for somewhere that was unlocked.
Instead, I found some guy cursing angrily at himself. I couldn't quite make it out.
"Bad day?" I called up the street, smirking. It probably wasn't the best idea to provoke some angry stranger on an empty street, but with that limp, I knew I could at least outrun him.
